If anything, MaMa Lotion sure has a catchy name. I first heard about MaMa Lotion purely by chance. I was browsing one of the many internet skin care stores, and I stumbled upon its product page. As I was about to click off the page onto another product, I noticed that MaMa Lotion had received extremely high ratings from many users who had posted their reviews on the store’s site. I was intrigued. One or two good reviews is not enough to pique my interest, but this thing had close to 30 good reviews. I then checked the price, sure that something that good had to be ridiculously expensive. To my sheer disbelief, it was priced at around $45. I could easily knock the price down a few bucks more with an online coupon. I was doubly intrigued. I had just placed an order for an Obagi product, so I did not order MaMa Lotion that night. As luck would have it, when my Obagi product arrived, a couple samples of MaMa Lotion in small white tubes accompanied it in the batch of free samples I get with every order. This was fate, I thought. I’m not usually this lucky…in fact, I would argue that I’m quite unlucky in general (but that’s a topic for another time and another place).
I would not suggest to do what I did–that is, to use the Obagi Nu-Derm System with MaMa Lotion at the same time. Both contain potent ingredients that can (and most likely) will cause irritation. But, I’m here to give you information, so if a blogger is not supposed to be a guinea pig, then who is?
In case you are wondering, I used the MaMa Lotion in my Obagi A.M. routine after applying Step 4 (which is the Obagi Exoderm Forte). The reason I chose to use MaMa Lotion with the Exoderm is because both are alpha hydroxy formulas with the same goals in mind–resurfacing the skin, diminishing wrinkles and reducing acne, among others.
So, what’s the bottom line? MaMa Lotion is good stuff. It has a thick liquid-like consistency so you don’t have to spend a lot of time trying to rub it into your face. I guess one can argue that it can feel sticky, but it never once got to the point where it bothered me. I followed it with my moisturizer (with sunscreen), and I had no problems getting it to absorb after using MaMa Lotion. But, please use MaMa Lotion either alone or once you are on your Obagi maintenance plan. You will feel irritation and see redness in your face when you start using MaMa Lotion. It’s extremely strong. In the time that I was using it, I was starting to see smoother skin texture and tone. When I stopped using MaMa Lotion, I lost that healthy “glow” it was giving my skin. Oh yeah, do not–I repeat, DO NOT–use this stuff on your eyelids. Trust me…been there, done that…not a good idea.
I can definitively say that I will be adding MaMa Lotion to my Obagi maintenance plan in a couple of months. It works very well and it won’t break the bank.
